Being the first the first sports-oriented comedy on FX was exciting news for a network best known for edgy and controversial dramas—it marked a milestone and gave BLITZ creative freedom when tackling The League: Season 1 microsite.
Since The League is a new series, and one that targets a completely different demographic than any other FX show, BLITZ helped define the brand and tone for the digital space. The microsite enables fans to access sneak peaks and browse video clips of deleted scenes or other filming specials, read production blogs, and get a behind-the-scenes glimpse at The League world; however, by augmenting the site with FoxSports.com, tune in, repeat visitors and overall traffic can be further enhanced.
In order to make the microsite a true digital extension of this comedic “faux” sports show, we worked to capture all of its original iconic elements, and capitalized on the humorous obsession of Fantasy Football players. To emulate real-life fantasy leagues, we produced a marketing sweepstakes based on weekly football games where fans are automatically entered to win a cash prize if they pick the winning team. To further add to the mostly male world of FF, we recreated the “man cave” environment, a key visual element, for the background and structure of FX’s over-the-top football fan microsite experience.
